Fire at BMA Blackwater workshop

This incident happened a couple of years ago. BMA Blackwater had a bad fire in their main workshop. This is the only photo that I've ever seen of the incident. Sent in by a reader.

This picture is from the Goonyella-Riverside mine in Queensland. Keep an eye on the Bucket-Wheel Excavator in the background, we'll be seeing more it on a future date.

Lifting fire

This set of spectacular pictures comes from the BMA Blackwater mine in Queensland, Australia. In this, a section of coal has caught on fire (coal is quite susceptible to spontaneous combustion). Rather than have the fire spread to other coal, the dragline here is picking up the burning coal in its bucket and putting it on the spoil pile, where it will be smothered under rock and dirt.
