Dozer into Light Vehicle

When I got back from my break, I saw that a lot of people submitted these photos. Some thought that they were from the Lake Vermont mine in the Bowen Basin, some from the Mt Arthur North mine in the Hunter Valley. The story, from one of the emails:

The contractor in the LV was following the dozer which was cutting an access track for the LV. The LV was following too close behind the dozer, the dozer stopped and reversed slightly to realign his cut and didn’t realise the LV was so close behind. Luckily the ripper tore the driver’s side door open which allowed the driver to escape uninjured.

Rear-Dumper Over Light Vehicle

I wonder is this shot was set-up. That car doesn't look much like any mine-spec vehicle, and the picture looks too good quality to be from the 60's or 70's. The truck also looks too big to be from that era, or from a quarry.

Bogger Into Ute

Another incident from the Birla Nifty mine in the Pilbara. From the email: "The  landcruiser was parked up behind a bogger in the underground workshop with all its lights off and no radio call to the bogger op. Of course, the bogger reversed over it."

Doesn't look too bad to me. Looks like an OCE ute with about 50k on the clock.

Dozer onto Light Vehicle

This looks like the sort of thing that is done at a 'Monster Truck' rally. This must have been in Australia. It looks like a Datsun 180B underneath the left tread, and a Commodore and Falcon in the background.

Nothing proves how good your dozer is a pushing dirt like running over some light vehicles!

Flattened Ute

I don't have any information about this incident, other than this photo. It looks like it's been driven over somehow by a dump truck.

Landslip Onto Ute and Excavator

Today's photos come from the sunny land of NZ. From the description: A hillside failed after heavy rain and pushed a ute against an excavator. The mechanic welding a hand rail in place narrowly avoided getting crushed. The ute was written off, but the excavator and welder survived.

HME over LV

I don't know what site this is from, but it looks like another very lucky operator.

Troopie vs 789

These amazing pictures were sent in last week by a reader. They come from the Barrick gold mine, at Porgera in PNG.

From the incident report: At approximately 1300hrs on the 13th March, a light vehicle (LV) was run over by a 789 truck on Stage 5B of the Open Pit.

There was a driver and two passengers in the LV at the time of the incident. Neither of the passengers appear to have been injured. The driver of the LV appears to have suffered a dislocated collar bone.
The two passengers were able to remove themselves from the LV unassisted. The driver of the LV required assistance to be removed from the vehicle as the steering wheel was holding him in the seat.

Statements are currently being obtained and the investigation has commenced, however early indications are that the driver of the LV approached the truck from the right side and was unsighted by the truck driver. The truck was in motion and within approximately 50m of a Shovel, it is likely he was about to turn to line up to receive a load from the shovel.

The truck stopped leaving the LV at approximately the mid point of the truck.

Flattened Light Vehicle

I don't know any of the story behind this photo, but that cab looks like it's gone through a hydraulic press, it's so flat.

Dawson Light Vehicle

Anglo, and especially Callide Dawson, have been making the news for the last week. This is one of the incidents that lead to it. A very lucky operator was able to get out of the car before it got run over.

Big thanks to a reader for sending this through.

Edit: As many, many, people have noted, this incident was at Dawson, not Callide.

Dozer at Moura

Got this great photo in the mail the other week. It's amazing just how many dozer operators forget where they parked their own car.

Those D11's have poor rear visibility at the best of times, but with the single-tine ripper, there's no way he could have seen that car.

Sent in by a reader. Thanks!
